Welcome to the website of the stay at home feminist.
Hi, I'm Alice, the stay-at-home-feminist. I am the mother of a 3-year-old daughter, Elisabeth, and an infant son, Alexander. Staying at home with them is my choice* as a feminist. I gave birth to them at home, with the assistance of a Certified Professional Midwife. I am tandem breastfeeding, and I use organic cotton diapers and practice bedsharing and all that other natural mother stuff. I am environmentally conscious, politically liberal, and a Unitarian. I have attended four feminist rallies in D.C., including the most recent one, in 2004. The last name that my children and I share is the name I was born with, and my partner and I are not legally married. Long live the matriarchy! Please explore the rest of my site and email me if you share my philosophy. *Many career women, including Madelaine Albright, have taken time out from their careers to stay home and raise their children. This practice is called "sequencing." Please see the article "Juggling Career and Home" in the March/April 2003 issue of Mothering. |

My Agenda
If I were to write my manifesto, I would emphasize the importance of breastfeeding as a world-wide health issue. I would stress the need to desexualize the breast and remove it from the control of men. I would also identify homebirth, midwives, immediate and uninterrupted contact between mothers and newborns, physical closeness between mothers with their babies day and night, holding and touching of babies, nonviolence toward babies (I refer to the violence of female genital mutilation, male circumcision, piercing, spanking, ... or smoking which is also abusive) and other natural parenting techniques, as being essential to the creation of a better world. I believe it is imperative that we provide every child on Earth (especially girls) with a thorough, secular education, and that we return to a gentler, matriarchal society, so that every child may grow up in a loving, supportive, nurturing, encouraging, natural, healthy environment. Check out my organic cotton breastfeeding advocacy t-shirts, tote bags, and bumper stickers!
